V-Space themed groups for SuppoRTT Trainees 

V-Space is relaunching in October 2021 with the introduction of themed groups. If you are a doctor returning to training simply register for the group which best matches your reason for absence by selecting from the following themes: 

  • Parental leave (maternity & paternity) 2 groups starting in Oct & Nov 2021 

  • Medical leave (illness or Covid-19 related) – dates TBA 

  • Academic / research – dates TBA  

  • Career break – dates TBA 

Our small, focused groups offer group coaching and peer support in the virtual space. The sessions are designed specifically for trainees who are due to return to work within a few months of the group start date. Participants from a range of specialties, stages of training, and across London, Kent, Surrey and Sussex meet every fortnight for four sessions, with options to connect with each other in between sessions.

NEW October & December 2021 - The Consultant Interview: preparing for success 

This half-day virtually-facilitated workshop is targeted to trainee doctors within 18 months of CCT. ​The workshop takes you through a series of practical steps to ensure you are well-prepared for the consultant selection process. The small group size - plus virtual breakout rooms - allows the opportunity to polish up your interview techniques, and give and receive feedback on mock interview responses. The workshop aims to not only help you identify a plan of action to prepare for success, but also to gain the confidence needed for a compelling interview.

NEW July 2021 Mentoring skills essentials for senior trainees

The Professional Development Team is launching a Mentoring skills essentials for senior trainees course this summer. We are delighted to be able to offer this course to senior trainees who are interested in developing their mentoring skills and approaches to support their junior colleagues.

  • Date & time:  Thursday 29th July 2021 from 9.30am to 4.30pm (Zoom)

  • Eligibility:  The pilot course is open to medical and dental trainees within 3 years of CCT.

  • Optional follow-up sessions (Zoom): 75-minute group review sessions with the course leaders on Tuesday, 17th August 2021 (6pm-7:15pm) and Thursday, 19th August 2021 (1pm-2:15pm). Registration for either of these optional sessions will be done at the end of the one-day course.

NEW - Virtual Peer Support Group for International Medical Graduates in a Training Post 

We will be starting a new facilitated and confidential virtual peer support group for International Medical Graduate trainees working in London and the South East.

The first session will be on Tuesday 15th June 2021 (18:00hrs – 19:30hrs) and be facilitated by Dr Ali Hassas, an Associate Dean at the PSU.

The aim of the group is to provide a confidential, relaxed, safe and supportive space to connect with other International Medical Graduate colleagues, away from your usual work environment.  

There will be a chance to: 

  • share experiences, dilemmas or ideas  

  • hear from others who may be experiencing similar situations 

  • offer mutual support and advice to colleagues if requested

English Pronunciation for Clinical Practice: accent reduction for non-native speakers

Communicating clearly and confidently is essential. Even if your knowledge of English is excellent, you may sometimes have difficulty making yourself understood, or notice that colleagues often ask you to repeat what you have said.

The course is open to all languages and will be facilitated by a phonetics expert. You will have the opportunity to address any specific challenges that you have experienced in spoken communication.

Case discussion group: Managing and Supporting Trainees in Difficult Situations (for Medical Education Leads)

This is a discussion group open to TPDs, ADs, DMEs and Heads of School. It will provide a neutral space for attendees to discuss dilemmas and concerns where there may be a particularly challenging aspect to the remediation process. There will be the opportunity to learn from peers and to participate in reflective conversations that reinforce good practice. The discussion will be facilitated by the Professional Support Unit's Individual Support Team.
